Thoughts on the Very First "Mythic X-Rare"... Empty Thoughts on the Very First "Mythic X-Rare"...

Post  Smash Spirit Wed May 23, 2012 9:36 pm

A peculiar thing happened as I researched on the Japanese wiki... I suddenly spotted information on an über-powerful Battle Spirit the likes of which I had never seen before. That was when I suddenly realized that somehow they managed to glean the details on the rumored "Mythic X-Rare" card!

Back in late March/early April, Bandai posted news about their upcoming Battle Spirits MAX Heroes' Championship 2012 this July, where the victor of the tournament would be the first to earn the title "Hero." They also displayed an image of the trophy this year's champion would win. Embedded inside of a large crystal within the trophy is a legendary "Mythic Card" (The original Japanese website calls it an "illusionary card" or a "mirage card"), the only print of its kind in the world. Since they purposely made it such that taking the card out of the trophy is impossible (unless you want to destroy your own trophy... Razz ), obviously this was going to be a treasured collector's item promo that would be illegal to play, and I figured it would be long after the tournament was over for any information to finally be unveiled about this mystery card. Here is a link to a pic of said announcement:

Fast forward to earlier this month, as I was researching on the Japanese wiki, I catch a new Spirit name—"Amaterasu Dragon"... Naturally, my curiosity got the better of me, so I clicked on the link to see what kind of Spirit it was. The Spirit was extremely powerful, with battle strength and special abilities that give even Lv. 4 Spirits a run for their money! Turns out this card is the grand prize Mythic X-Rare card in question!! Speaking of questions, my mind was just storming with them! How could they get this information? The tournament is still a good two months away! The card is lodged inside of a freakin' crystal for crying out loud! And the only person who is supposed to get this card, according to Bandai's website, is the tournament champion, right??

Anxious to get to the bottom of this, I started searching on Google for anything else on「アマテラス・ドラゴン」(Amaterasu Dragon), only to find out:

http://blog-imgs-54.fc2.com/a/s/y/asyura7card/20120506202553d6f.jpg

...the people at Sunrise, Inc. thought it awesome to just reveal her right out in the open, in all her glory, two months in advance, by featuring her in an episode of "Battle Spirits: Heroes". And now I'm left wondering, was that really a smart decision? To show a blurred image to increase hype, only to spill the beans barely a month later...?

The two things that make this "Mythic" X-Rare stand out from other X-Rares is that not only does the Spirit have full-card artwork, but it also proudly displays the trademark cursive "BS (Battle Spirits)" logo in place of the shuriken-like "X."

For those of you who are interested in what this dragon goddess does, prepare to be in for a shock...! It's Battle Spirits' very own Egyptian God ca—errr, Japanese Goddess... card... Razz

The AbsoluteDragonDeity Amaterasu-Dragon

Mythic Hero X-Rare Ruby Spirit [RRR] Crystalline Deity
Level 1 <1>: "X0,000BP"

{Hero Motif: "Amaterasu-Oomikami," Shinto Goddess of the Sun}

This Spirit is completely invincible to any and all special effects.
(Lv. 1): This Spirit cannot perform Brave Fusion, nor can it be affected by the special effects of any Spirit save for itself. Let Amaterasu Dragon's Battle Point strength be 10,000x ("X times 10,000"), where "X" equals the number of Cores placed on this Spirit.
When Summoned (Lv. 1): Destroy all other Spirits on the Field.

Shocked Shocked Shocked GOOD HEAVENS!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked That's just insane!! Even poor GaiAsura is shivering in his scales! I guess I'll have to see the episode for myself as far as what role this celestial powerhouse plays in the anime. Personally, notations like "X0,000" disturb me; algebraic notation just makes more sense... What's really strange is that the Japanese wiki claims Amaterasu isn't that game-breaking compared to other more infamous Spirits (Mikafar the Archangel, anyone?)...

I'm interested in hearing everyone else's thoughts on the situation.

Personally, I think Amaterasu-Dragon is a lot scarier than Mikafar.

I actually found out about it through the anime first (it appears in ep 33, and in the 2nd OP animation), and have been wondering what set it was associated with, as it doesn't appear to be in BS17. Now I know. One of a kind? Well, considering how lethal it is, that's probably for the best. Then everyone would probably just use it in their decks, and mass chaos would ensure.

I wonder if whoever gets it will take it out of the trophy. I'd be tempted to (not that I could even enter). It's a kind of ugly trophy. Laughing

God.....scary! Invincible to any effects...great, there goes curse, poison shoot, binding thorns, dream chest.....basically the only way to stop this behemoth is by battle. And she's got a whole lot of points to back her up, so that won't be easy....
Her Vs Mikafar? This dragon wins a by a long shoot. Sure, she's got no reduction. But once this card hits the field, the only way your opponent can win is by swarming. Or trying to deck you out.

edit: just read your post about the comparing this to the egyptian gods. I'll be referring to the legal versions of the beasts...it adds Ra (destroys cards) Obelisk (effect immunity) and Slifer (variable ATK) all into one card.

i can only guess, how this tcg market/product world functions, that we will get this or similar cards, once the first player is winning this item. kids will get crazy, and will DEMAND such cards.

you as bandai production, what would you do then?

A. say NO to kids, no you will never get such a card from your booster pack.
or...
B. wait some months, let's say in BS20 we will give you exactly 1x such a card in every booster-box.

market logic would support option B;-)

this card...available to the public? not sure about that Bolmeteus, granted this card is hard to summon with 10 cost and no reduction and BS is a fast paced game. However I think bandai will make a...watered down version, or one for each color maybe. Can't wait....

i mean, don't get me wrong please!

if only one kid/champion/japanese kid, has the chance to get this card, market logic says, that thousands of other kids are either disappointed or start to hate bandai!

so you will consider as production manager to give SIMILAR new card rarity/card design (YES WE LOVE FULL-BLEED CARDS!) to the mainstream hordes of kids who maybe will never play in a championship to get such cards;-)

Actually, on the topic of Egyptian God-level cards and how to overcome them, I just now thought of something.... Perhaps coming up with a strategy against Amaterasu Dragon is excruciatingly difficult, but not entirely impossible....

Do any of you remember the final five episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters(the first series), where Yugi faced the Pharaoh in a final Ceremonial Duel? The Pharaoh managed to summon all three of the Egyptian Trinity in only a couple of turns, but Yugi defeated them all by using Spells and Traps on his own monsters such that the God's strengths and abilities turned against themselves! What if the same tactic could be applied to Amaterasu Dragon? According to the text, Amaterasu cannot be specifically targeted for any special effect. But there are certain cards out there (Wing Boots for example) that allow your Spirits to bypass opposing Spirits and go straight for the opponent's Life Cores! The infamous superpowered fan-made promo Ultimate Dragon also has a similar mechanic... Again, these special abilities affect your own Spirits, and not Amaterasu directly.

As I have next to no experience in playing Battle Spirits, this could be just me rambling on about nothing Razz , but the possibility holds water in my eyes. What are your thoughts? Smile

Technically, that's the 2nd series, more commonly known as Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters. There was a series before that, which also featured Yugi and the gang but does not exclusively focus on the TCG, it's commonly known as "season zero."
About those strategies...interesting indeed! I'll love the look on your opponent's face when you pull that off. Your opponent all confident here, like "Muhahaha, you'll never kill my dragon" then you bypass her and win anyway.
