does this "soldier" type-related effect work in combo with those new "chinese soldiers" like what our translators currently talk?

Well, talking about spirits type or attribute. It is different to Spirit name. Attribute is fixed and must be 100% same.
But Name is different, like the cards that support with the name of Sieg, or Apollo dragon, or Lord-Dragon.

This card, wirian slash only support the Soldier ATTRIBUTE.

i do not understand the reference of "attribute" in this case and don't understand to which part of the question you put your "correct" or "wrong" confirmation.

Go for more detail is, the translation goes different from Japanese due to it goes more specific meaning other than just GENERAL.

its a type/family/attribute (whatever you call it) example of soldier is meteorwurm. heres the list
