I was wondering if the effect take place when only multiple targets are targeted or if it works also with only 1 spirit been targeted.

Well, it could work when only 1 of your spirits is being targeted by the specified effects. However, there's no other spirits for you to choose for the nexus' effect because you can only choose spirits being affected by the opponent's effects.
