Battle Spirits JPN Set 08: "SENRAN (戦嵐) ~The Storms of War~" [COMPLETE!!] + SevenShogun Update

Post  Smash Spirit on Mon Aug 15, 2011 8:55 pm

Hello again! This thread will feature all 90 cards in the eighth Japanese Battle Spirits booster set, "SENRAN (戦嵐) ~The Storms of War~" [Released 13 May 2010, 46 Commons/18 Uncommons/12 Rares/8 Master Rares/6 X-Rares]. This is the first booster set to release six X-Rares instead of just four, one for each Gem Color. We are also introduced to a new special ability for Diamond Spirits: Icewall, an effective weapon against oncoming Spell Card effects. Grand Woden the Divine Wingmech, one of the poster X-Rares for this set, proudly demonstrates this new ability.

Do you remember these Spirits?
[BS05-007] Rosso the Crimson Dragonrider (The ScarletDragonRider Rosso)
[BS05-017] Violette the Purple Haze Dragonrider (The PurpleDragonRider Violet)
[BS05-026] Grune the Viridian Dragonrider (The ViridianDragonRider Grun)
[BS05-034] Albus the Chalk White Dragonrider (The WhiteDragonRider Albus)
[BS05-043] Flaume the Twilight Dragonrider (The YellowDragonRider Flavum)
[BS05-053] Azure the Sea Blue Dragonrider (The BlueDragonRider Azure)

First shown in Japanese Set 05 "KOUKI (皇騎) ~Siege of the Royal Knights~," these six Spirits were known for being able to control the Elemental Emperor Dragons seen in Set 04. Actually, these guys are a part of a larger guild called "Imperial Dragoon" (written in Japanese kanji as「皇十二竜騎士団」Sumeragi no Juuni Ryuukishidan, the Royal Dragonknights Twelve). The other half of this team, the assault force, is introduced in this set.

So each of the Elemental Emperor Dragons have two knights in their service, one as their rider, the other as their weapon. Where does that leave the infamous seventh Emperor Dragon, Dark Siegfried the Daemonlord Dragon? Well, that's where this set's second poster X-Rare makes its menacing appearance. Turns out our Dark Dragon Emperor becomes his own knight in the form of his enhanced evolved version: Dark Crimson, Dragonknight Devil Lord, a high-risk high-reward X-Rare that stands at the apex of all evil Dragon Spirits.

We begin in my next post with the Ruby Spirits as before. Enjoy! Smile

Let's get those Ruby Spirits under way, shall we?

[BS08-001] DEINONYCHUSAW {1} -1R
Dinonychusaw
(ディノニクソー Dinonikusoo)
Common Ruby Spirit [R] Terra Dragon
Level 1 <1>: 1000BP, Level 2 <3>: 4000BP

I'll say this once again: DO NOT go anywhere near the actual wargrounds. Search for a place where you can watch from a safe distance. If you get engulfed in a battle, run away immediately. There are some cowards around here; if you see them flee, you run with them, even if you don't feel a threatening presence. Never forget that you're gambling with your lives on the line.
—————
[BS08-002] PTERADIA CAPTURE SQUADRON {2} -1R
The CaptureUnit Pteradia
(プテラディア捕獲部隊 Puteradia Hokaku Butai)
Common Ruby Spirit [R] Dragon/Winged Dragon
Level 1 <1>: 2000BP, Level 2 <3>: 3000BP

When This Spirit Attacks (Lv. 1-2): Destroy one opposing 3000BP-or-less Spirit with "When Summoned" effects.
Look, the Winged Dragons are arresting their enemies. It appears they intend to do something about those character-less Machines...
—————
[BS08-003] DARK ANKYLLERSAURUS {3} -1R
DarkAnkillersaurus
(ダークアンキラーザウルス Daaku-Ankiraazaurusu)
Common Ruby Spirit [R] Terra Dragon
Level 1 <1>: 3000BP, Level 2 <2>: 4000BP, Level 3 <3>: 5000BP

During Your Main Phase (Lv. 1-2-3): When this Spirit is sacrificed for a Tribute Summon, you can instead exhaust this Spirit to bring the Tribute Summon Spirit to the Field without paying its Tribute Cost.
During Your Opponent's Turn (Lv. 2-3): When your opponent draws a card at any time other than his/her Draw Phase, destroy an opposing Spirit with 4000BP or less.
"There's a company in the ranks that is so brutal, they are unable to discern ally from foe... But as of right now, that's just the kind of strength needed." ——Rolo the Wanderer, Otherrealm Observation Records: Ruby Chapter, Section 6
—————
[BS08-004] TYRANNOID THE SAURIAN MAN {3} -2R
The Dinoman Tyrannoid
(恐竜人ティラノイド Kyouryuujin Tiranoido)
Uncommon Ruby Spirit [R] Dragon/Terra Dragon
Level 1 <1>: 2000BP, Level 2 <3>: 5000BP, Level 3 <6>: 6000BP

(Lv. 1-2-3): When there are only two or fewer Spirits on your Field, treat this Spirit as a "Level 3 Spirit."
When others address you as "Brave Hero" (Yuusha-sama), they do so out of proper respect. Call yourself as such, and it's curtains for you.
—————
[BS08-005] BRAVE GENERAL CATAPULDOS {4} -2R
The BraveGeneral Catapuldos
(闘将カタパルドス Toushou Kataparudosu)
Common Ruby Spirit [R] Ancient Dragon/Deified General
Level 1 <1>: 3000BP, Level 2 <2>: 5000BP, Level 3 <5>: 7000BP

When This Spirit Attacks (Lv. 1-2-3): Look at the top two cards in your deck; if either one of them is a "Vanity Deity" or "Deified General" Attribute Spirit, add that one card to your hand. Return the other card(s) to the bottom of your deck in any order you wish.
When This Spirit Attacks (Lv. 2-3): RAGE <Special Ruby Ability>
If your opponent has any unexhausted Spirits available, he/she must block this attack.
We're losing our advantage in numbers... All of us, Dinosaurs and Dragons included, are in a tight pinch...!
—————
[BS08-006] RAYBLITZ, DRAGONKNIGHT OF THE THUNDER EMPEROR {5} -3R
The ThunderDragonRider Rayblitz
(雷帝竜騎レイブリッツ Raitei-Ryuuki Reiburittsu)
Rare Ruby Spirit [R] Dragon Knight/Dragon
Level 1 <1>: 4000BP, Level 2 <3>: 7000BP

During Your Main Phase (Lv. 1-2): Once during your turn, you can Summon one Tribute Summon Spirit from your hand directly to the Field without paying its Tribute Cost. Any "When Summoned" effects the new Spirit may have do not activate when using this ability.
During Your Attack Phase (Lv. 2): All of your "Dragon Emperor" and "Dragon Knight" Attribute Spirits are upgraded to their highest Battle Level.
Hey... I can't see all that well, but... That guy riding the Dragon... Doesn't he look different than before?
—————
[BS08-007] PROMETHEORS THE PYROCLASTIC DRAGON {5} -4R
The PyroclasticDragon Prometeors
(火砕竜プロメテオーズ Kasairyuu Purometeoozu)
Uncommon Ruby Spirit [R] Astral Dragon
Level 1 <1>: 3000BP, Level 2 <3>: 7000BP

TRIBUTE SUMMON: 1+ Core Cost —> Trash
After paying the traditional Summoning Core Cost, you must move all the Cores of a Spirit that meets these aspects to the location specified in order to Summon this Spirit.
When Summoned (Lv. 1-2): Destroy all opposing 5000BP-or-less Spirits with "When Summoned" effects.
"A resounding roar could be heard harmonizing with the incantation the shaman chants. The giant fireball borne from said spell begins pulsing..." ——Rolo the Wanderer, Otherrealm Observation Records: Ruby Chapter, Section 9
<<Translator's Note: This Spirit's name is a portmanteau (fusion) between "meteor" and "Prometheus," the Titan in Greek mythology who stole fire from Zeus to give to mortals. Something that is "pyroclastic" is formed from rock fragments from a volcanic eruption. The Japanese word for "pyroclastic flow" is kasairyuu (火砕流); they simply replaced the character for "flow" with that of "dragon.">>
—————
[BS08-008] DARKWURM THE BLACK DRAGON EMPEROR {6} -3R
The BlackEmperorDragon Darkwurm
(黒皇龍ダークヴルム Koku'ouryuu Daakuvurumu)
Rare Ruby Spirit [R] Astral Dragon/Dragon
Level 1 <1>: 4000BP, Level 2 <3>: 6000BP, Level 3 <5>: 8000BP

When This Spirit Attacks (Lv. 1-2-3): RAGE <Special Ruby Ability>
If your opponent has any unexhausted Spirits available, he/she must block this attack.
During Your Attack Phase (Lv. 2-3): All your "Astral Dragon" Attribute Spirits gain +3000BP as well as the Special Ruby Ability RAGE.
Hey, don't get near him, you idiot! He's not the same as before; you get any closer and you'll get pulverized!!
<<Translator's Note: The flavor text heavily implies that this Spirit used to be [SD01-008] Siegwurm the Thunder Dragon Emperor.>>
—————
[BS08-009] FIELD MARSHAL EMPEROR DRAGRON {7} -4R
The FieldMarshalEmperor Dragron
(関将龍皇ドラグロン Kanshou-Ryuu'ou Doraguron)
Master Rare Ruby Spirit [R] Dragon
Level 1 <1>: 6000BP, Level 2 <3>: 10,000BP

TRIBUTE SUMMON: 3+ Core Cost —> Trash
After paying the traditional Summoning Core Cost, you must move all the Cores of a Spirit that meets these aspects to the location specified in order to Summon this Spirit.
When Summoned (Lv. 1-2): Destroy all Spirits with the Special Emerald Ability HIGH SPEED. Also, if a "Dragon" Attribute Spirit was sacrificed to Summon this Spirit, look at your opponent's hand and choose a card for him/her to discard.
When This Spirit Attacks (Lv. 2): RAGE <Special Ruby Ability>
If your opponent has any unexhausted Spirits available, he/she must block this attack.
A matchless warrior? Most likely. If the Oblivion Dragons face him head-on, they won't be leaving without some broken bones.
<<Translator's Note: Some believe that this Spirit's motif is based off of Guan Yu, one of the heroic generals featured in the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.>>

Up next: the Amethyst Spirits!

Common Amethyst Spirit [A] Zombie

When This Spirit Attacks (Lv. 2): CURSE <Special Amethyst Ability>
When the Battle Phase ends, this Spirit destroys one opposing Spirit that blocked.
These are grieving souls whose lives were sucked out by the Monarchs. The power they earned in compensation forces them to head for oblivion. The only thing that awaits them is total destruction, but one must wonder which of these was the better outcome...

—————
[BS08-012] DARK SKULL DEMON {3} -1A

(Lv. 1-2-3): When this Spirit is sacrificed for a Tribute Summon, you can instead exhaust this Spirit to bring the Tribute Summon Spirit to the Field without paying its Tribute Cost.
During Your Opponent's Attack Phase (Lv. 2-3): When an opposing Spirit with 6000BP or less attacks, your opponent must send one Core from the attacking Spirit to his/her Trash.
The authority of the Demonkin caste system is nothing to be trifled with; even among traitors, disobeying those higher in rank is strictly forbidden.
—————
[BS08-013] ANDREALPHUS {3} -2A
Andrealphas
(アンドレアルファス Andorearufasu)
Common Amethyst Spirit [A] Nightling/Infernal Lord

"It was at the instant when the blade of the dark scythe sliced the Oblivion Army general to pieces. From the general's crumbling body gushed forth a blinding flash that turned into a violet band of light before racing to the heavens above. Somewhere beyond those swirling black clouds, something was descending, guided by the pillar of light... And thus was the beginning of true terror." ——Rolo the Wanderer, Otherrealm Observation Records: Amethyst Chapter, Section 12
<<Name Origin: "Amaimon," alternate name for Prince Amon (see BS08-011)>>

When Summoned (Lv. 1-2-3): Draw a card from your deck; if an "Infernal Lord" Attribute Spirit was sacrificed to Tribute Summon this Spirit, draw 3 cards.
The Monarchs wish for complete conquest; Oblivion's goal is annihilation. The Dark Snakes who approve the Monarchs also evade Oblivion's existence.
<<Name Origin: "Botis," a Great President/Earl of Hell usually depicted as a viper; able to tell all things past and future (Ars Goetia)>>

When Destroyed (Lv. 1-2): Add one Core from the Void to your Reserve.
No one knows when it happened, but deep within the forest a giant ant's nest has been built. They appear to be omnivores as they eat just about anything. It would be great if they could eat those scary Dragons......

During Your Opponent's Attack Phase (Lv. 2): When an opposing Spirit with 6000BP or less attacks, your opponent must exhaust one of his/her Spirits.
If you find someone who turned black, turn the other way. It's said they turn black when being forced out by the World Tree's divine protection.

You know, the Ants have a sense of unity and cohesion that's simply amazing. The Elders have this saying, "You can't swap your back with your guts," but I have the feeling things will only get tougher as we mature...*
<<Translator's Note: More fusion names, yay! "Ant" + "Reine" (French: "queen")>>
*"Se ni hara wa kaerarenai" (背に腹は代えられない): A Japanese proverb saying that you can't just sacrifice yourself recklessly in order to protect your precious comrades

It's become a giant kaiju war everywhere you look! If only this were someone else's homeland, this would be more enjoyable to watch....

Hopefully there won't be any more hiccups... To the Diamond Spirits!

Outside the windows, countless Lampsquid float in the surrounding skies, shimmering like a sea of diamonds. It may feel like a strange, unbalanced contrast, but the setting is unexpectedly fitting. It's enough to make me forget that we'll be approaching the decisive battle soon..." ——Rolo the Wanderer, Otherrealm Observation Records: Diamond Chapter, Section 10

The famous horse trader who has raised many a champion is now leading his disciples into battle! What a beautiful camaraderie between teacher and student!
BONZE (pronounced "bonz"): [noun] a Buddhist monk ...I just learned a new word in English... yippee. Razz
<<Translator's Note: With the text on this card, all of the main characters in the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West now have a Battle Spirits representative: Sanzor, Bonze of Dreams =

<<So basically, if Cthulhu became a Battle Spirit, this would be the result. Smile >>

And that's all for the normal Spirits! The Nexus Cards are up next.

Turns out our Dark Dragon Emperor becomes his own knight in the form of his enhanced evolved version: Dark Crimson, Dragonknight Devil Lord

Are you referring to the DarkDragonEmperor Siegfried and The MasterDragonRider Dark Crimson?
Also, thanks for also translating the flavor text, I've always been fascinated by it and convinced there's a story behind all that. Well, apparently here's my proof, there's a story about the riders and the dragons. I can't wait! Very Happy

Hmmm....the riders from set 4 (5 in japan) can bring out the dragons without need for tribute. Also they can give effects to themselves, dragon emperor and vanity deity spirits. For example, Azure can give a powerful mill effect to your spirits. So I'd say yes, you can make combos about them.

Well, a few hiccups irritated me here and there (glitchy connection), not to mention juggling new classes and assignments, but in just one night on Labor Day weekend, I FINALLY COMPLETED SET EIGHT! YEEHAW!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

To answer your question, Slifer, that's a yes on both counts. Bolmeteus, I think looking up [BS08-052] Vantholomew, Dragonknight of the Ocean Emperor might be up your alley...

As this is turning into a make-or-break semester for me, progress on future sets will end up somewhat slow for the time being, but rest assured, I will keep everyone posted with updates on new translated cards! Smile

Now Advancing to Next Stage:>> ...Japanese Set 09: "CHOUSEI (超星) ~Supernova Supremacy~"...

THNX FOR YOUR AMAZING FAN WORK ^^

but i have small question:

is the grand-total-wording there considered to be WITH or WITHOUT the spirits' price-reduction?

"During Your Attack Phase (Lv. 1-2): When a "Dragon Emperor" Attribute Spirit on your Field attacks, you can destroy any number of opposing Spirits whose Core Cost comes to a grand total of 4."

"6th Infernal general"? Isn't Asmodios the fifth? Let's count here:

1)desperado (set 1)
2)destlord (set 2)
3) pandemium (set 4)
4)beelzebeat (english set 5)
5)ASMODIOS (set 8 )
9)Beldegaulle (set 9)

as of now, there is still a missing 7th general...

Re: Battle Spirits JPN Set 08: "SENRAN (戦嵐) ~The Storms of War~" [COMPLETE!!] + SevenShogun Update

Post  Smash Spirit on Fri Sep 09, 2011 5:10 pm

To Bolmeteus: The wording for that special effect specifically refers to the Core Cost of opposing Spirits displayed on the cards at their face value [no cost reduction involved]. In other words, to give some examples, before the main attack, you can destroy another 3-Cost and a 1-Cost opposing Spirit, or four opposing Spirits with a Core Cost of 1 each.

Unfortunately Slifer, many other players are boggled as to why there are only six of the "Seven Shogun." According to the flavor text of the original Japanese cards, the Generals of the Underworld appeared in the following order:
<1>: [BS04-X14] Underworld General Pandemium
<2>: (...?????)**
<3>: [BS01-X02] Underworld General Desperado
<4>: [BS02-X06] Underworld General Destrode*
<5>: [BS06-X22] Underworld General Beelzebeat*
<6>: [BS08-X30] Underworld General Asmodeus
<7>: [BS09-X36] Underworld General Beldegor

* The flavor text for Destrode and Beelzebeat does not explicitly say which one appeared first between them; this is just a popular guess.
** Only these six are the ones who specifically have "Makai-Shichishou" in their names at this time. Though there are some who believe that the one who governs these Generals, the promo X-Rare [PX04] El-Blood, Prince of Devils, might be the seventh in question....

All this about the SevenShoguns/Underworld Generals is really interesting. I was always wondering what happened to the 7th one, but just kind of shrugged it off because most the X rares in recent sets have been part of the constellation series anyway. My only theory was that maybe The GreatArmoredLord Deathtaurus was the 7th, since it's a cross between Desperado and The Duke Kingtaurus. But it's not likely.

(Update) The Last Remaining "Seven Shogun" is FINALLY UNVEILED!!!

Post  Smash Spirit on Sat Jan 28, 2012 12:38 am

To Bolmeteus, Soaker, and Slifer:

http://www.battlespirits.com/shopbattle/shop_ex_hero-draft.php

I just checked the latest news on Battle Spirits' official Japanese website, and lo and behold a surprise was in store! Apparently, come this February, Bandai is holding a Battle Spirits "Supreme Heroes Saga" Booster Draft Tournament in Japan where the grand prize for the champion is the final missing Underworld General!! The card picture is not large enough for my liking, but here is what I was able to make out. Enjoy! Very Happy
