i think when this spirit attacks or when it blocks because the steps occur like this

Attack Step
Flash Step
Block Step
Flash Step

so either when you attack with this spirit or when you block and is this spirit is exhausted by the effects of any spell or nexus in the flash step this effect will still work but it has to happen in the (FLASH STEP).
